On mutual needs and compatibility

dearcoquette:

My boyfriend says he loves me, but only wants to see me like once or twice (max) a week. We both have shit going on in our lives, so sometimes this just ends up being status quo, but it hurts me when he passes on proposed plans because we’d seen each other the day or two before. Am I being too…

Just a reminder:

When Prophet Muhammad (sallahu alayhi wa sallam) was travelling on the road with his cousin, Al-Fadl ibn Abbas, a woman stopped him to ask him a question.  The woman was very beautiful, and Al-Fadl couldn’t help but stare at her.

Seeing this, Prophet Muhammad reached out his hand and turned his cousin’s face away.

He didn’t tell the woman to cover her face.

He didn’t tell her to change her clothing.

He didn’t tell her that her appearance was too tempting or indecent.

He averted his cousin’s impolite stare.

"From the beginning, we were concerned about casting, the issue of race. What we realized is that this story is functioning at the level of myth, and as a mythical story, the race of the individuals doesn’t matter. They’re supposed to be stand-ins for all people. Either you end up with a Bennetton ad or the crew of the Starship Enterprise. You either try to put everything in there, which just calls attention to it, or you just say, “Let’s make that not a factor, because we’re trying to deal with everyman.” Looking at this story through that kind of lens is the same as saying, “Would the ark float and is it big enough to get all the species in there?” That’s irrelevant to the questions because the questions are operating on a different plane than that; they’re operating on the mythical plane."

Ari Handel, the co-writer of “NOAH”

Many people are talking about the upcoming Moses movie so I thought this little white supremacist gem should get some attention too. Riddley Scott already did a movie ignoring race in the human origin story (Prometheus) so it isn’t illogical to believe his choice for an all-white cast is intentionally racist. When white people think they are the default race or they’re “everyman” that’s a racist ideal. When white people think involving actors of color in their movies is too distracting or “doesn’t matter” that’s lazy and an outright racist assumption about moviegoers.

In what universe is the white man the default everyman? That right there tells you everything you need to know about representation. The white man does not know what it is like not to see himself represented and so assumes that others relate to him in the same way. He has no idea how ridiculous, fantastical, abnormal his behavior and its response in society seems. You mean he easily went to the best College and didn’t have at least 1 job? You mean he got hired at the first dream place that he interviewed? He gets full pay for the value of that work? You mean he has a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood no one says he shouldn’t be able to live in? The only problem he has is he doesn’t have a girl friend (he’s straight of course) because he’s such an ass. The plight! And we do accept that story, that white man’s story because we know it is truly that way for him. But my god it’s not true for the rest of us who know dragons would fly before those things would happen. That’s how much we cannot relate. He’s the every privileged white man. He’s not the everyman or the everywoman. To not see that is to be blind to the privilege deficit and to devalue non-eurocentric cultural differences. Stop pretending Joe Six Pack is an everyman. He’s a privileged white dude who can afford beer.

Harbor Police arrested a 29-year-old man early Sunday morning, July 27th in a hotel at 333 West Harbor Drive. He was booked into San Diego County Jail at 11:20 am on charges of sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of minor. The victim, a juvenile female, was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. The Harbor Police Investigations Unit is handling the incident. This investigation is ongoing.

HE HAS BEEN ARRESTED.

For those who don’t know what has been happening,

According to the girl’s mother, her injuries are severe, and indicate a vicious beating. Here is the account of what occurred from Tumblr:

IF YOU WENT TO SAN DIEGO COMIC CON OR KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS, PLEASE READ.

One of my dearest friends was found on the side of the road, unconscious and bloody. She was wearing this cosplay on the day it happened. She was last seen with friends when she ran off after a disagreement. Please, please, please, if you have ANY information or saw her anywhere, contact her mother. The full information is down below. This isn’t okay and it’s sickening to know that this happened at a place people truly can enjoy themselves. Please spread the word.

”I just received a call from the San Diego Police Department and my daughter REDACTED aka REDACTED was found on the side of the road covered in blood with no ID unconscious. They are unsure what happened to her. My husband is on his way to the police station and then the hospital. If you have any information on what happened to her please send me a facebook message or call me at REDACTED. Thank you in advance”. -REDACTED

Remember when SDCC said they didn’t want to make their anti-harassment policy clear because it would make it seem like there was a problem? (more)

well too fucking bad, now it REALLY looks like you have a problem, you fucks.

Let’s just keep this circulating, shall we? Because this is not okay on any level.

KEEP THIS CIRCULATING. Cons really need to fix this! There is no excuse for this to happen to her just for dressing a certain way!!!

The superstitions revolving around teas and their rituals, along with certain aspects of cake are at times forgotten.

The supernatural use of tea:

  • Protection - dry tea leaves were sometimes scattered on the front-door step of a new home to protect it…

Although I have to point out that there was a piece of speculative science fiction called The Blazing World published by one Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1666, slightly predating Mary Shelley.

This is the thing. Women have been doing awesome shit since there was awesome shit to do, we’ve BEEN THERE, if anyone bothered to look.

Oh, they looked. And then maliciously and willfully erased us from the books to keep anyone else from “getting ideas.”

Hell, the first named author in history? Enheduanna, a Sumerian high priestess, poet and lyricist. She’s known as the Shakespeare of Sumerian literature.

Oh man, I didn’t even know that last bit. One more awesome lady to add to my reading list~
